Jugganote

Jugganote are a Welsh rapcore and rap-rock act that starts in 2007. The group develops an alternative hip-hop approach that combines metal, rap, rock and occasional reggae, drawing on the intensity and attitude associated with those styles. They concentrate mainly on South Wales, while also playing across the UK.

Line-up

The band is made up of four musician-friends: Barry Town lyricist BeSpoken, guitarist Dan “D Man” Careless, bass player Martin “Marty” Peareth, and Joe Roberts, also known as Doc BlackdaWho, who provides beats and samples on an Akai MPC 500.

Releases

Jugganote record their first three tracks in early 2007 on a self-titled demo at Nottin Pill Studios in Newport, with ex-Skindred guitarist Jeff Rose and drummer Martyn “Ginge” Ford. The demo includes “Give me Strength”, “A World that don’t Suite me” and “Enough”.

Their 2008 EP, The Hold Up, is recorded with Todd Campbell at S.K.W.A.D HQ and launched at Cardiff’s Barfly. Its tracks are “Intro”, “Real to Keep”, “Audio Sports”, “Reasons For Our Pride Forgot”, “For My Brothers”, “7/7”, “Burn it Down” and “Outro”.

The band’s third release, Good Men Stand Together, comes out in 2009. It is recorded and mixed by Todd Campbell at S.K.W.A.D HQ and includes “Non-Conformists”, “Don’t Listen”, “We Insist”, “The Kid’s With Us”, “Obey”, “No One Man’s Rule”, “Many Men” and “(Still) Believe In Change”.

Live activity and reach

From their first live shows in 2007, Jugganote build a profile through regular touring and support slots, with a particular focus on the South Wales scene. They also appear on compilation albums worldwide and develop an underground following, with attention in Japan, Germany, Russia and across Eastern Europe.

Approach

The group presents itself as working to keep an old-school, fun-loving rap/metal spirit while addressing current issues. It aims to be intense both on record and on stage, and to keep developing as musicians and as a collective.
