Jucifer
Jucifer is an American doom metal duo from the United States, active since 1993. The group is made up of Gazelle Amber Valentine, who plays lead guitar and sings, and Edgar Livengood, her husband, who plays drums. Their recorded work is associated with doom metal, noise rock and sludge metal, and they are signed to Nomadic Fortress.
Sound and performance
The band is known for performing at extreme volume and for using a large wall of amplification for Valentine’s guitar. Their live performances and recorded material are often described as contrasting with one another. They are also known for constant touring, which begins in the mid-1990s.
Nomadic lifestyle and film work
In 2000, Jucifer moves into an RV and adopts a nomadic way of life, touring continuously and living in their vehicle rather than following a more typical cycle of recording, touring and time at home. Valentine and Livengood also appear as themselves in a planned film, Metalhead, a drama about a drummer dealing with hearing loss and the meaning of silence. The project is later cancelled. The band is also associated with Sound of Metal, a later reworking of that idea.
NOMADS: Build To Destroy
In 2015, Jucifer previews teasers for a film project called NOMADS: Build To Destroy, described as a music-video biopic using tour footage and documentary material made and assembled by the band. Livengood is credited with photography and Valentine with editing.
