Juan Wauters is a Uruguayan singer-songwriter from Montevideo. He moves between folk, indie and indie folk, and he is based in the New York DIY scene after moving from Montevideo to Queens in his teens in the early 2000s.

Wauters signs to Captured Tracks and becomes a regular presence in New York’s independent music circuit. He plays lead vocals and guitar in the pop-punk project The Beets, and also releases solo records. Among these are Who Me? and N.A.P.: North American Poetry.

His 2019 album La Onda de Juan Pablo (The World of Juan Pablo) follows a period of travel through Latin America and brings Spanish more fully into his work. The record includes a drifting, quiet folk sound focused on small everyday details. He also performs with vocalist Carmelle Safdie, who is associated with Beachniks, and Matthew Volz, who handles vibe-making in set and lighting.
