Joywave

Joywave is an indie rock band from Rochester, United States. The group forms in 2010 and is active from that point to the present. Its line-up includes Daniel Armbruster, Jacob Asher, Benjamin Bailey, Paul Brenner, Sean Donnelly and Joseph Morinelli.

Releases and early activity

Joywave releases its first single, “Golden State”, in January 2011 through its website. Later that year it issues the mixtape “77777”, a release built from original material, covers and sample-based tracks, with stems combined around Armbruster’s vocals. In August 2011 the band puts out a limited edition 7-inch on Tympanogram, the blog-turned label, pairing “Traveling At The Speed Of Light” from “77777” with the new song “Ridge”.

The band follows with the EP “Koda Vista” in March 2012. This seven-track release focuses on the effect of environmental factors on personal experience and presents a theme of predestination shaped long before the band members. Joywave then releases the mixtape “88888” in 2013 and the EP “How Do You Feel?” in 2014.

Albums and collaborations

Joywave’s first full-length album, “How Do You Feel Now?”, appears in 2015. The band later releases the albums “Content” in 2017, “Possession” in 2020 and “Cleanse” in 2022. It is also known for its collaboration with Big Data on “Dangerous” in 2013.
