Joy Machine

Joy Machine is a United States group that forms in the early 1990s after evolving from Heads Up Display, the band Kris and Tim Heireth found in 1988. Heads Up Display runs from 1988 to 1992, and Joy Machine follows from 1993 to 1996.

The group works in a synthpop-influenced rock and metal setting, and is also associated with hard rock, heavy metal and glam rock. It develops from an alternative-music environment and is described as an original US synthpop band from the early 1990s.

Joy Machine gains a large following on mp3.com after the release of remastered demo recordings on the retrospective CD The Best That Never Was in 2000. Those recordings cover material from 1993 to 1996 and become the main reason the group is remembered after its short active period.

After Joy Machine, brothers Kris and Tim Heireth form Brand New Idol. Peter Riley returns to synthesizers and later plays in The Dossier.

A separate group of the same name is also described as an unsigned Polish rock and metal act inspired by hard rock and metal from the 1980s and early 1990s, with three songs recorded at Sophiria Studio.
