Josie Lloyd

Josie Lloyd is a composer, songwriter and sound engineer who works across classical music and pop. She graduates with a first-class degree in Music and Sound Recording (Tonmeister) and wins the MCPS Joyce Dixey Composition Competition twice, in 2007 and 2009; the double win is described as unprecedented at the time. She also receives the AMS-Neve Prize for the best final-year portfolio of creative recordings.

She begins as a classically trained musician and holds post-grade-8 diplomas in violin and mezzo-soprano singing. Her work includes traditional classical ensemble writing as well as contemporary songs and experimental material. She plays and writes for a wide range of instruments, including kora, electric five-string violin, guitar, music box, synthesiser, tap shoes, harpsichord, whashboard and boomwhackers.

Lloyd records most of her own work and is also involved in recording and production for other artists. She performs contemporary songs at gigs and maintains a sound described as accessible despite the unusual instrumentation and experimentation in her compositions.
