Background

Josh Beech and The Johns begin as a London band fronted by Josh Beech. Beech also works as a model, and his profile in fashion sits alongside his work as a vocalist. The band starts as a three-piece touring unit before becoming a fuller group.

Recording and releases

The band’s debut single is Lights, introduced as a warm and heartfelt song that combines pop, rock and folk elements in a simple structure. It is led by Beech’s vocal delivery and serves as an introduction to the band’s first full-length release. Before that, Beech issues a solo acoustic EP titled Burnt Out in summer 2010.

After Burnt Out, Beech turns his touring band into a permanent group with John Turnham on drums and John Martinelli on bass, and the trio releases the EP She in April 2011. Gulli Gunnarsson later joins on keyboards, and the band then works as a four-piece.

Live work

The group tours Europe and America and develops a following while preparing its debut material. A performance at The Old Blue Last in London is used to launch Lights.
