Joseph Calleja
Joseph Calleja is a Maltese tenor from Attard, Malta, born in 1978. He begins singing at the age of 16 and continues his studies with Paul Asciak after being discovered by him.
He makes his first operatic debut at the age of 19, singing Macduff in Verdi's Macbeth at the Astra Theatre in Gozo. In the same period, he becomes a prize winner at the Belvedere Hans Gabor competition. He later wins the Caruso Competition in Milan in 1998 and is a prize winner in Plácido Domingo's Operalia in 1999.
Calleja also records two compact discs, Tenor Arias and The Golden Voice, both of which receive radio play in the United States.
