Jon the Baptist and DJ Chuck-E

Jon the Baptist and DJ Chuck-E are a UK hard trance duo associated with Future Sound Corporation and Intolerance Recordings. They work together as producers and DJs, and the partnership draws on experience from both the hard trance and earlier hardcore and rave scenes.

DJ Chuck-E

DJ Chuck-E has been DJing since 1996. He begins in the hardcore and rave scene before moving into hard trance, where he becomes a key figure in the Welsh scene. His residencies include Breathe, Ludicrous, Devils Heaven, GBH, Energy and X-Treme. He also co-promotes the Viberation, Trancefusion and Panic Room events.

In 2004, he takes over running the World DJ Fund and helps raise money for the Nororf Robins Foundation through those events. He is a regular at events such as Bionic, Tranzaction and Ripsnorter, and he also appears at Slammin Vinyl West Fest, Addiction in Scotland and the Fresh Clubbing Tour in Ireland. He holds residencies for the Pulse summer dance festivals and rotational residencies alongside Cally & Juice at Welsh hard dance events.

Chuck-E co-owns the UK hard trance label Intolerance Recordings, which releases work by the duo. He wins the national PYP DJ competition and appears alongside artists including Yoji Biomehanika, Eddie Halliwell, Scot Project, Technoboy, Dave Joy, Alphazone, S.H.O.K.K, Lisa Pin Up, Anne Savage, Blutonium Boy, Zany, Trance Generators, Lab 4, Uberdruck and Walt. Radio 1 DJ Kutski plays and showcases material by the duo on his residency and New Breed shows after hearing them at a back-to-back set at Ripsnorter.

Jon the Baptist

Jon the Baptist begins producing in 1999. He is a former resident of the Yeovil country club, a venue associated with the UK underground hard trance scene, and he works with artists including Flutlicht, Mark EG, Wag, A.S.Y.S. and DuMonde.

His productions appear mainly on Future Sound Corporation in Italy, and he also releases music on Drizzly, Sectioned, Liquid Pulse, Phantom Traxx and Intolerance. He co-runs the High Fish Recordings label. His tracks include Insomnia, Lift, Los Muertos and Earth, and these receive airplay from Scot Project and Alphazone. He also remixes for the Waterworld / Skywarp stable, including a remix of Alphazone material, and he and Chuck-E compile and mix a set for Bas & Ram’s Q-Dance radio stream.

Releases

The duo’s discography includes Intolerance, El Beso, Magic, Il Futuro, Excitement, Love, an Intolerance Recordings launch mix CD, a Q-Dance radio mix and a Vol 24 mix CD. Their work also includes the Cally & Juice track The Virus featuring a remix by Jon the Baptist and DJ Chuck-E, and Jon the Baptist’s Insomnia remixed by the duo.

Appearances and activity

They perform at Ripsnorter in Bristol, including a midnight set at a New Year event, and they are booked for events such as Hindsight, Atmosphere, Premonition, Bionic, Slammin Vinyl and Addiction. Their material also appears on Future Sound Recordings in Italy and Ourstyle Records in the UK.
