Jon Byrne
Jon Byrne is a UK singer-songwriter and social commentator from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria. His songs focus on love, life and social observation, and his writing draws on film, books and comedy rather than being heavily shaped by music.
Style and themes
Byrne’s material combines direct storytelling with social commentary. His writing includes references to contemporary life, social deprivation and urban decline, alongside songs about personal and emotional subjects. The result is a body of work that moves between reflective and confrontational subject matter.
Live performance and band
He is known for energetic live performances, and performs with Bobby Kewley on bass and Paul Tsanos on drums. Kewley has played with The Christians, while Tsanos has worked with Pete Wylie and Ian McNabb.
Release
His debut album is It’s Boring Being in Control, released through Militant Entertainment, a label connected with Glastonbury’s Left Field Stage.
