JoJo is the stage name of Joanna Noëlle Levesque, an American singer and actress from Brattleboro, United States, born in 1990. Raised in Foxborough, Massachusetts, she begins performing at a young age in singing competitions and local talent shows.

Early career

In 2003, record producer Vincent Herbert notices her after she appears on the television programme America's Most Talented Kids and invites her to audition for Blackground Records. She signs to the label the same year.

Recording career

JoJo releases her self-titled debut studio album in 2004. The album reaches number four on the US Billboard 200, later receives platinum certification from the RIAA, and goes on to sell more than four million copies worldwide. Her music is associated with contemporary R&B, hip hop, pop, R&B, soul and teen pop.

Other note

The name Jojo also appears as the title of a separate project by Austrian guitarist Robby Musenbichler, formed in 1986 and active until 1989, which is distinct from JoJo the American singer.
