Jojo Abot

Jojo Abot is a Ghanaian artist from Accra who works across music, film and photography, literature, and performance art. Her work combines afrobeat, electronic, folk, jazz, reggae, and soul, and she describes her sound as AFRO-HYNO-SONIC.

Her ongoing project, FYFYA WOTO, means “New Birth - New Discovery” and centres on the self as a way to explore identity. Through this project and her wider practice, she examines spirituality and expression, placing her work within wider discussions about shared space and identity beyond colour, race, class, or sexual orientation.

Abot spends a year in New York City as part of the New Museum’s NEW INC incubator programme and then takes part in a residency at National Sawdust, also in New York City. She also tours with Lauryn Hill and appears at venues including the Apollo Theatre, the Museum of Modern Art, the Kennedy Center, Kings Theatre, and Times Square.
