Joji is the music project of George Kusunoki Miller, a Japanese-Australian singer, songwriter and rapper who is also known for his earlier work as an internet personality under the names Filthy Frank and Pink Guy. He is from Hawaii.

Early online work

Miller creates The Filthy Frank Show on YouTube in 2011 while living in Japan. He gains recognition through appearances on the comedy channels TVFilthyFrank, TooDamnFilthy and DizastaMusic, where he portrays a range of eccentric characters. He begins making Filthy Frank content in 2012 while studying at college in the United States.

The channels feature comedy hip hop, rants, extreme challenges, and ukulele and dance performances, and become known for shock humour and viral spread. Miller also helps popularise the Harlem Shake internet meme, which contributes to the commercial success of Baauer’s song of the same name and increases his profile on YouTube.

Pink Guy releases

Under the name Pink Guy, Miller releases two comedy studio albums, Pink Guy and Pink Season, as well as an extended play between 2014 and 2017.

Music as Joji

In late 2017, Miller ends The Filthy Frank Show to focus on music as Joji, a name based on the Japanese form of his first name. His music draws on R&B, lo-fi and trip-hop, and he is also tagged with hip hop and alternative R&B.

He signs with 88Rising and 12Tone Music Group and releases the studio albums Ballads 1 and Nectar, both of which reach number three on the Billboard 200. These albums include the singles “Slow Dancing in the Dark” and “Sanctuary”, which appear on the Billboard Hot 100 and the ARIA Charts.

His 2022 single “Glimpse of Us” reaches number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the ARIA Charts, becoming his highest-charting song. It precedes the album Smithereens.

As Joji, his studio and extended-play releases include In Tongues, Ballads 1, Nectar and Smithereens. As Pink Guy, his releases include Pink Guy, Pink Season and Pink Season: The Prophecy.
