John Newman
John Newman is an English singer from Settle, England. His work sits across soul, pop, breakbeat, dance-pop, northern soul and pop soul, with links to the nu soul tag.
Career
He begins writing songs and playing guitar as a teenager, and also teaches himself to record and produce music. He makes his own house tracks and works as a DJ before moving to London at 20, where he forms a band, performs live and signs to Island Records.
Newman is best known for Love Me Again, which reaches number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2013. He also appears as a featured artist on Rudimental’s singles Feel the Love and Not Giving In, which reach number one and number fourteen respectively.
Recognition and releases
He is one of the more successful and widely praised British singers of 2013. At the 2014 BRIT Awards, he receives three nominations, including British Male Solo Artist. By February 2014, he has sold more than 1.3 million records in the UK.
His second album, Revolve, is released in 2015. Its lead single, Come and Get It, is one of the album’s singles.
Family
His older brother is James Newman, who represents the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with Embers.
