John Morgan

John Morgan is a Portland-based indie band member, listed as a person with Pirate Jenny. The name also refers to several other musicians, including an electronic artist, a 1960s keyboard player and vocalist, and a North Carolina country singer-songwriter.

One John Morgan works in breakbeats, electronic music and house. He is a member and founder of the industrial band Unit:187 and the duo Powerplant with Kiki Stewardson, and he also founds the Powerplant Music label. He starts making music in 1985 after buying his first synthesizer, with influences including Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy and Peter Gabriel. He also does sound design and music composition for video games, especially the SSX series.

1960s psychedelic rock

Another John Morgan is a keyboard player and vocalist who begins as a Graham Bond enthusiast before moving into psychedelia later in the 1960s. He performs under the name The Spirit of John Morgan, and the band gets bookings at venues such as the Marquee. The group releases three albums: a self-titled debut in 1969, followed by two more albums in 1970 and 1972, both issued simply under John Morgan on the Carnaby label. He also releases a single for British RCA in the early 1970s.

Country singer-songwriter

A further John Morgan is an American country music singer-songwriter from Sylva, North Carolina. He tours the summer festival circuit for 10 years in a family bluegrass band before moving into songwriting and relocating to Nashville. He also competes in American Song Contest, representing North Carolina.
