John Lee Hooker Jr.
John Lee Hooker Jr. is a blues singer from Detroit, United States, born in 1952. He is the son of John Lee Hooker and grows up around blues and Motown music in Detroit.
He performs on Detroit’s WJBK radio at the age of eight and begins to pursue a career as a musician. During his teens, he tours with his father and appears at venues including Detroit’s Fox Theatre. By the time he is 16, he performs with musicians such as Jimmy Reed.
In 1972, he sings vocals with his father on Live at Soledad Prison, released on ABC Records. His career is later disrupted by drug and alcohol problems, divorce, incarceration and a period away from music. He returns to recording with support from his family, friends and other musicians, drawing on personal experience and faith in his work.
