John Barrowman
John Barrowman is a singer, stage performer and television personality from Glasgow, United States, born in 1967. He moves to the United States as a child and later returns to the UK in 1989 to play Billy Crocker in Anything Goes in London’s West End.
Stage and musical theatre
Barrowman builds an extensive musical theatre career, appearing in West End productions including Anything Goes, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard and Miss Saigon. He also appears on Broadway in Sunset Boulevard, which marks his Broadway debut, and in Stephen Sondheim’s revue Putting It Together.
Television work
In the 1990s, Barrowman appears on the BBC children’s Saturday morning show Live & Kicking as host of the Electric Circus segment, where he reports on technology news. He later presents The Movie Game, a children’s television game show, and becomes one of the regular presenters on Five’s afternoon show Five’s Company.
He is also widely known for playing Captain Jack Harkness in the BBC series Doctor Who and its spin-off Torchwood. He later appears as a judge on How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria in both the UK and Canadian versions, as well as on I’d Do Anything and Any Dream Will Do.
