John Alexander is a Scottish guitarist and songwriter who begins as a classical guitarist before moving into blues and country music. He spends several years in New Zealand, based in Christchurch on the South Island, where he takes part in the local music scene and builds extensive live experience playing in venues across the region.

He records his debut album, Waiting for Now, with local artists in New Zealand before returning to Glasgow, his hometown. His songs draw on his life in Scotland, his time in New Zealand, and travel in the United States. His writing and playing reflect influences including Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, John Martyn, Kelly Joe Phelps, Greg Brown and The John Butler Trio.

Alexander appears live in support of artists such as Newton Faulkner, Karine Polwart, Martin Simpson, Johnny Dickinson and US songwriter Darrell Scott. He also appears at Celtic Connections. His later release Rain For Sale follows his earlier material.
