John Ainsworth
John Ainsworth is a singer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Manchester. He writes and performs on twelve-string guitar, and also plays six-string guitar and piano.
His music spans several styles, including blues-influenced hard rock, classical-based pieces with rock elements, mellow dream-like material, and folk-leaning songs. He describes the folkier songs as the most personal and heartfelt in his work.
Ainsworth starts writing and performing music as a child. He learns to sing first, then guitar, then piano. He studies music formally, but also teaches himself songs and pieces outside the curriculum, including the James Bond theme on piano and music associated with Jimi Hendrix on guitar.
He does not begin writing songs or lyrics until after leaving music school and moving to a comprehensive school, when he starts listening to rock music and forms a band. Songwriting then becomes the central focus of his musical life, alongside recording and gigging.
By 2012, he finishes his debut album after recording with the help of people who let him use their studio, and with support from people based in London. He remains active as a performer and songwriter.
