Joey Anderson is a house, deep house and techno producer from Hoboken, New Jersey, in the United States. He first gains attention in the underground dance music scene with deep, spacious tracks that draw on Detroit techno and cosmic, experimental strains of electronic music.

Career

Anderson grows up in the early house music scene as a dancer before teaching dance classes and then moving into music production. He begins releasing tracks in the late 2000s on DJ Qu’s Strength Music Recordings. In early 2011 he launches his own label, Inimeg Recordings, a name taken from his zodiac sign spelled backwards. The label debuts with a split 12-inch EP with DJ Qu, followed by another with Jus-Ed.

After playing underground parties in the United States, he makes his European debut in 2012 at London’s Free Rotation festival. He continues to build a catalogue through the early 2010s with releases on labels including UntilMyHeartStops, Deconstruct Music, Latency, Syncrophone Recordings, Anunnaki Cartel, Sound Theories and Tanstaafl Planets.

Releases and recognition

Among his notable recordings are “3200 B.C. House Dancer” for UntilMyHeartStops, “Earth Calls” for Deconstruct Music, and “Above the Cherry Moon” on Avenue 66. That track receives particular praise and is named by FACT as one of the year’s best tracks. In 2013 he also issues a mix CD, The Era, on the Japanese label Yygrec.

In 2014 Anderson releases his debut full-length, After Forever, on Dekmantel. The album appears on year-end lists from Resident Advisor and Rolling Stone. He follows it in 2015 with the 1974 EP on Dekmantel and later that year releases the full-length Invisible Switch on the same label.
