Joe Newberry is a United States old-time musician who works in bluegrass, folk and old-time music. A Missouri native and North Carolina transplant, he has played music for most of his life and is known for banjo, guitar, fiddle and singing.

Musical work

Newberry’s banjo playing is described as powerful and inventive, and he wins contests around the country, including first place at the Appalachian String Band Music Festival. He is also a prizewinning guitarist, fiddler and singer. Alongside solo and studio work, he teaches and performs at festivals in the United States and abroad.

Bands and collaborations

He performs with Big Medicine and also plays banjo and sings with Bill Hicks, Mike Craver and Jim Watson, who are original members of The Red Clay Ramblers. He is also associated with The Tar Heel Hot Shots, Compton & Newbury and The Jumpsteady Boys.
