Jodie Steele

Jodie Steele is a singer from Basingstoke, Hampshire. She performs as a solo artist and works across R&B and pop, with her own material as well as cover versions when required. She also writes with local rappers and spends much of her free time developing new songs. Her work includes live performance, recording, dancing, choreography, acting and writing.

Performance and collaborations

She performs live regularly and appears on stage alongside artists including Kano, DJ Ironik, N-Dubz and DJ Luck and MC Neat at a live music festival in Basingstoke. Local artists including The Author, XTC, Tempz and G2K ask her to write, record and perform with them. Her voice also receives attention from local radio in Basingstoke and Reading, as well as regional newspapers.

Training and education

Steele attends dance classes, singing tuition and basic piano lessons. She studies at Brighton Hill Community College, where she achieves 11 GCSEs at A*, A and B grades. She also earns a Junior Sports Leadership Award and captains the girls’ football team, while competing in athletics, netball and rounders.

Stage work and influences

Alongside music, she develops her skills through dance schools and performance groups including CULT, JLD, On Your Toes and Crystal Dance School. She takes leading roles in school productions and local drama groups, including Peter Pan, Chicago, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Macbett. Her influences include Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Ne-Yo, Usher and Amy Winehouse, and her listening ranges from reggae and soul to indie.
