Job For A Cowboy is an American metal group from Glendale, United States, formed in 2003 and active since then. Their sound is associated with death metal, deathcore, grindcore, metalcore and technical death metal. The band begins as a deathcore act and then moves towards a predominantly death metal style on its early full-length releases.

Line-up

The group’s current line-up includes vocalist Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos and drummer Jon Rice. Davy is the only remaining founding member.

Releases

The band’s debut album, Genesis, is released in 2007 and reaches No. 54 on the US Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 13,000 copies. Their second album, Ruination, follows in 2009 and debuts at No. 42 on the Billboard 200 after selling 10,600 copies in its first week. In 2011 the band issues the EP Gloom, made available through mail order and digital download. The album Demonocracy follows in 2012, and Sun Eater is released in 2014.

Activity and performances

Job For A Cowboy plays international festivals including Download Festival, Mayhem Festival and Wacken Open Air. At the start of 2011, the band begins work on the EP Gloom, recording it at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof. Before those sessions, bassist Brent Riggs and guitarist Bobby Thompson leave the group and are replaced by Nick Schendzielos and Tony Sannicandro.

Recording changes

During the period around Sun Eater, drummer Jon Rice leaves the band and Danny Walker handles the drumming on the album. Rice later returns for a one-off show.

Critical descriptions

The band is described as having a guttural, brute-force sound descended indirectly from hardcore punk, and as a straightforwardly brutal act.
