Joanna Weston

Joanna Weston is a singer-songwriter from Guildford in Surrey. Her songs take a contemporary approach to themes of life, love and loss, and her sound centres on a soaring soprano voice with melodies and understated arrangements.

Career

She begins singing, dancing and acting from birth, and in 2004 attends a vocal course at Guildford’s Academy of Contemporary Music before becoming lead singer of her first serious originals band. In 2006 she becomes one half of Weston and Schonning, then later picks up the guitar and develops a solo career.

Her music receives airplay in the UK on stations including BBC Surrey, Eagle Radio, EKR.com and Brooklands FM, and it is also played overseas on HGRNJ.org in New Jersey. Brooklands FM features her as an artist on David Durant’s Unsigned Show, with two hours of live play and chat. She is also selected for BBC Introducing: The South, where her work is played on air for industry feedback.

Releases and live work

Weston performs at venues in and around London including The Half Moon in Putney, The Cobden Club in Notting Hill, The Bedford in Balham and The Boileroom in Guildford. She also plays festivals such as GuilFest and Small World, and performs in Turkey and Holland.

Her EP Pieces Of The Puzzle is recorded in Utrecht, Holland, and a film company documents the making of the record in a behind-the-scenes series called Folkin Around Holland - Pieces Of The Puzzle, which follows the process from first meeting through recording, rehearsals and live performance.

Recognition

Weston is described as an award-winning artist and is nominated for Best Female Solo Artist at the Guildford Music Awards in 2010. Feedback on her singing and songwriting highlights the emotional quality of her voice and the impact of tracks such as “Don’t Stop”.
