Jo Whiley

Jo Whiley is a British broadcaster and radio disc jockey from Northampton, England. She is born in 1965 and works on BBC Radio 1.

Career

She presents weekday daytime radio on BBC Radio 1, broadcasting from 10 a.m. until 12.45 p.m. each weekday. Her output includes frequent live sessions in which bands and solo artists perform in the studio. She previously hosts The Evening Session with Steve Lamacq on weekday evenings from September 1993 to February 1997. That programme runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and focuses on less-mainstream, non-dance music.

Television and other work

Whiley also works as a television presenter and covers major music festivals on television, including Glastonbury Festival. She also narrates the television series Little Angels.

Background and public profile

She attends Campion School in Bugbrooke and then university in Brighton. She is known for being blonde and for often wearing Dr. Martens. In 2005, she is among the BBC radio and television figures who cross a strike picket line during industrial action over proposed job cuts. She is also a Tottenham Hotspur supporter.

Other recognition

In 2006, a Jet2 Boeing 737 based at Blackpool Airport and a departure lounge at Newquay Airport are named after her following a campaign by fellow Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.
