J:Kenzo is a dubstep DJ and producer from Kent, United Kingdom. He is also the founder of Soul Shakerz Records. His sound draws on dubstep, purple sound and riddim dubstep, with influences from jungle and garage, as well as echoes of dancehall and house in his DJ sets.

Career

J:Kenzo begins DJing in 1995 and moves into production after encountering the emerging dubstep scene in 2005. His first release appears in 2007 on Soul Shakerz, under the title Tekno Bass. He releases music on Artikal Music UK, as well as Dub Police, Argon Records, 2nd Drop and his own Soul Shakerz label.

Recognition and performances

His tracks are played by figures including Caspa and Skream. The production Cosmo appears on a Ministry of Sound compilation mixed by The Cut Up Boys. He also holds resident plays at Fabric in London and performs in cities including Brussels, Ayia Napa, Seattle and Birmingham.

Style

His sets focus on sub-heavy dubstep and are built for the dancefloor. His productions and performances reflect his early interest in jungle and garage, alongside his later work in dubstep.
