Jinga Safari
Jinga Safari are an Australian indie group active from 2010 to 2016. The act forms in Australia in 2010 around Marcus Azon and Cameron Pepa Knight, and later includes Alister “Nugget” Roach, Joe Citizen and Jacob Borg. It first gains national attention in Australia after winning Triple J’s Unearthed competition in 2010.
Style and influences
The group is associated with indie pop, experimental music and a sound described as forest rock. Their music is compared to Animal Collective, Sufjan Stevens and Sigur Rós.
Releases
Jinga Safari release an eponymous EP in 2010, Mermaids & Other Sirens in 2011, a compilation titled Locked By Land in 2011, and a self-titled album in 2012.
Background
Before Jinga Safari, the original duo is reported to have formed part of Modern Joy with members of Sea Legs. Byron Knight, the vocalist of Sea Legs, is Cameron Pepa Knight’s brother.
