Jimpster is the solo project of Jamie O’Dell, a producer, remixer and DJ from Braintree, United Kingdom, also known as Audiomontage and Tea Dancers. His work sits in dance and electronica, with strong links to deep house, lounge, house and jazz, and it reaches listeners in the electronica, downtempo and house scenes.
Career
Jimpster is active as a recording and DJ project and co-runs Freerange Records. O’Dell’s musical background and broad listening habits shape his productions, which lead to a long run of releases and remixes. He becomes especially well known through his Jimpster LP Messages From The Hub and his Audiomontage 12-inch records, which help establish him as a producer and bring him into regular demand as a remixer and co-producer on underground projects.
Releases
Messages From The Hub appears in 1997, and a later Jimpster LP, Amour, is released on Freerange. He also issues his first original track for another label on Buzzin’ Fly, with the track Square Up. That release becomes a major club record and spends time high in DJ Mag’s Hype Chart.
DJ work and collaborations
As a DJ, Jimpster is known for a house-focused style that still moves across different sounds. He plays venues and events in the UK and abroad, including Fabric and Plastic People in London, Cocoon in Frankfurt and 11 in Amsterdam, as well as clubs in Cork, Kyoto, Moscow and Chicago. He also works as a remixer on more than 50 projects and appears as part of the live outfit The Bays, which also includes performances at major festivals such as Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Womad, Lowlands and Bestival.
