J.I.D is the stage name of Destin Route, an American rapper and songwriter from Atlanta, United States. He is associated with hip hop, southern hip hop and trap, and is a member of Spillage Village.

Background

Route is born in 1990 and grows up in a large family as the youngest of seven children. He listens early on to Sly & The Family Stone and Earth, Wind & Fire, then moves on to 1990s New York hip hop and artists including Jay-Z, Nas and Mobb Deep. In high school, he spends much of his teenage years playing football as a defensive back and also runs track.

Recording career

J.I.D is signed to Dreamville Records and Route Way LLC. His debut album, The Never Story, is released in 2017.
