Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies are a folk act from Northumberland associated with English folk and singer-songwriting. Jez Lowe is the central member of the group and also performs as a solo artist. He is an English folk singer-songwriter, born in 1955, and grew up in County Durham in a coal mining family with Irish roots.

Lowe is known for writing songs about everyday life in North-East England, especially in Easington Colliery, his hometown. In performance, he sings and accompanies himself and The Bad Pennies on guitar, harmonica, cittern and piano.
