Jetboy
Jetboy is a San Francisco rock band that forms in 1983 and is active until 1993. The group is associated with hard rock and is also described as a hair metal band. Its original line-up includes Billy Rowe, Eric Stacy and Sami Yaffa, and the band later moves from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 1986 after signing to Elektra Records.
Early years and sound
Jetboy builds its sound from a mix of punk rock, rock and roll and blues. The band develops in the San Francisco scene before relocating to Los Angeles, where it records and releases its debut album, Feel the Shake, on Elektra in 1988. The album reaches number 135 on the Billboard 200.
Line-up changes and later activity
In 1987, bassist Todd Crew dies from a drug overdose in the hotel room of Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash. After this, Sami Yaffa joins the band on bass. Yaffa is a member of Hanoi Rocks, one of the groups Jetboy regards as a major influence. Jetboy continues into the 1990s before splitting up.
More than a decade later, the band reunites, tours and records the EP Off Your Rocker.
Recordings and film appearances
Jetboy's discography includes Feel the Shake (1988), Damned Nation (1990), A Day in the Glamourous Life (1997), Make Some More Noise (1999), Lost & Found (1999), One More for Rock N' Roll (2002), The Glam Years (2007) and Off Your Rocker (2010).
Three tracks from Feel the Shake appear in the 1989 film The 'Burbs: "Bloodstone", "Locked in a Cage" and "Make Some Noise". Two more songs from the album, "Feel the Shake" and "Make Some Noise", also appear in She's Out of Control the same year.
