Jessica Jay
Jessica Jay is an Italian SAIFAM music project associated with bubblegum dance, eurodance and italo dance. The project is linked with female vocal performance and 1990s dance-pop releases.
Career
Jessica Jay develops from an early interest in singing. The vocalist begins performing in clubs at 17, usually with different backing bands, and also works as a part-time backing singer. The project then makes its first recordings and gains success across Europe.
The act is known for the albums Broken Hearted Woman and Chilly Cha Cha. Broken Hearted Woman appears on the VMP label, while Chilly Cha Cha is released in November 1998.
Line-up and vocals
There is long-standing interest in who provides the vocals for the project. The voice on the first album is revealed as Dora Carofiglio, also known as Valerie Dore, the 1980s italopop singer. The first album is also referred to in the account as Borken Hearted Women.
In March 2008, Jessica Jay releases My Heart is Back, an album of new versions of earlier songs together with new material sung by Melody Castellari, who also records as DEAR, Lady Violet and Sundee.
Musical influences
The vocalist listens to a wide range of softer styles, including funk, pop and jazz. Named favourites include Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole and Al Jarreau. Group preferences include Incognito, U2 and Tears for Fears.
