Jesse Rose

Jesse Rose is a London house producer, DJ and label owner who also records under the alias Content. Raised in Ladbroke Grove on Motown soul, jazz and 1980s funk, he moves to Bristol at the age of twelve and begins working with his friend Jamie Anderson in the early 1990s. The pair DJ and run club nights, developing a sound centred on Chicago house and early Detroit techno.

Production and recordings

By the mid-1990s, Rose has already built a reputation for versatile 4/4 DJ sets and begins producing. He returns to London in 1997, where he plays regularly in the city and releases his first mix CD, Tec-House Living, on Subversive under the name Deeper Sound Of Bristol. The mix attracts strong critical attention for the way it presents his sound.

In 2006 he releases two original albums. More Than One, on Front Room, features collaborations with David Taylor (Solid Groove), Henrik Schwarz, Dominic Stanton (Domu), Jamie Odell (Audiomontage and Jimpster), Rob Mello, Chris Duckenfield (Duckbeats), Trevor Loveys and Jamie Anderson. His second album, What Do You Do If you Don't?, on Dubsided, is an hour-long mix of original tracks and includes Asided and You're All Over My Head. Later references to the album describe collaborations with Hot Chip and David E. Sugar, along with the singles Touch My Horn and Forget My Name featuring Hot Chip.

Other productions include A-sided on Dubsided, described as a major track in his catalogue. He also works alongside Switch, also known as Solid Groove/Switch, as Induceve on Derrick Carter's Classic label and on Dubsided. Under that name he releases Jazz Chops, Time To Begin, Monolevel, the Pick It Up EP and Warehouse Shit. He also produces with Trevor Loveys as Izit? on Made To Play.

Labels and projects

In 2000, Rose and Chris Belsey launch Front Room Recordings. The label releases work by Solid Groove, Trevor Loveys, Jamie Anderson, Atlantic Fusion, Rob Mello, John Tejada and Stefan Goldmann, as well as productions and remixes by Rose. He also co-owns Loungin' Recordings, which receives support from Masters At Work, Gilles Peterson and Jazzanova, and he later forms the Made To Play imprint. His labels include Play It Down, and he is associated with the house genre.

DJ career and residencies

Rose becomes a widely booked house DJ and plays clubs including Fabric, Panoramabar, Basics, WMF, The End and Weekend. His residencies include Front Room Sessions at Kinzo in Berlin, Wagg in Paris, a two-year run on Kiss FM and Back to Yours in London, which he continues to play bi-monthly. He remixes artists including Layo & Bushwacka, Riton, Radio Slave, Phil Weeks, Elite Force, Jimpster, Kosma and Trevor Loveys.
