Jesse Malin
Jesse Malin is an American singer-songwriter from Flushing, New York, whose work spans alternative rock, americana, indie folk and rock. He begins performing at the age of 12 in the New York hardcore band Heart Attack in the 1980s.
Career
He later becomes the original frontman of D Generation, a 1990s punk and hard rock band. After D Generation breaks up in 1999, he forms Bellvue and then turns to solo material.
Malin’s solo work draws on influences including Paul Westerberg, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. Ryan Adams, an old friend, offers to produce his first solo record despite having no previous production experience.
Solo releases and collaborations
His debut solo album, The Fine Art of Self Destruction, is recorded in just under a week and appears in January 2003. He tours the United States and the United Kingdom behind the album. His second album, The Heat, follows in June 2004, and his third, Glitter in the Gutter, appears in March 2007.
In 2010, he forms Jesse Malin & the St. Mark's Social and releases Love It To Life, an album title taken from a Joe Strummer quote. The record previously has also been used as the title of a 2007 UK release of live material on One Little Indian. Its singles include “Burning The Bowery” and “All The Way From Moscow”.
Also in 2010, he appears as part of Rodeo Queens and releases the song “Depression Times” with a video. Rodeo Queens includes members of Green Day.
Later work and other bands
D Generation reunites in 2011 and continues to play live. In 2019, Malin releases Sunset Kids, a collaboration with Lucinda Williams and Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.
