Jeremy?

Jeremy is a Bulgarian alternative rock group active since 2011. The core lineup is Ersin Mustafov on vocals and bass, Tasho Kolev on guitars, and Yavor Lalev on drums. In 2010, keyboardist Lyubomir Petkov, known as a keyboard player with PIF, joins the band and adds more groove, melody and a darker mood to the group’s sound.

Formation and early development

The band begins under the name Negative Split, with the members first coming together around the idea of making serious rock music. The group moves between Kavarna, Sofia and Varna during its early period, working on its first compositions and self-written material. A concert in their hometown of Kavarna becomes a turning point, after which they meet Dimo Stoyanov of PIF, an encounter that encourages them to continue with the project.

During the process of recording early songs in a studio in Varna, Mustafov takes over as frontman and bassist. The group later settles on the name Jeremy while working on these first tracks.

Style and recordings

Jeremy’s music is shaped by the Seattle sound and by alternative rock. Their work is characterised by strong melodic vocal lines, a dirty Seattle-influenced guitar tone and a powerful drum section. Mustafov’s lyrics are also an important part of the band’s identity.

The band’s early singles include “Nyam”, “Krasiva si” and “Zornitsa Depres”. “Zornitsa Depres” appears on the double-CD compilation Credit to The Nation from the rock bar Stroeja, alongside Bulgarian groups such as Ostava, Animatsionerite, Fyeld, Sepuko 6, PIF, Skre4, Awake and Amoric.

Live activity and collaborations

Jeremy plays club shows and shares stages with bands including PIF, Ostava and V.OXX. Tasho Kolev and Ersin Mustafov also work with Ludmila Slaneva on her project Loko, and together with Ivo Petrov, known as Pifa from Skre4, they serve as regular stage support for her. The band’s sets at the Seattle Night events are among its most notable live appearances.

At the time described, Jeremy is working on its first album while also recording material for a joint project with Slaneva. Tasho Kolev also plays guitar in the club tour of the Bulgarian rock figure Stanil, alongside Misho Shishkov and Georgi Georgiev from Ostava.
