Jenn Grant

Jenn Grant is a Canadian folk pop singer-songwriter from Charlottetown, Canada, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her work sits in folk pop, and she is also associated with classic pop and rock.

Early career

Grant performs under her own name and is also associated with The Heavy Blinkers and Aqua Alta. She begins performing as a musician in her early teens, but stops for a period because of stage fright. She returns to live performance in her early 20s, playing shows with Heavy Blinkers.

Releases and collaborations

In 2005, she releases the independent EP Jenn Grant and Goodbye Twentieth Century. Her debut album, Orchestra for the Moon, includes collaborations with Ron Sexsmith, Heavy Blinkers, Matt Mays and Jill Barber. She tours Germany and Canada in support of the album and appears as an opening act for The Weakerthans.

Her second album, Echoes, is recorded on a farm in rural Ontario in 2008. Jonathan Goldsmith produces the album and Walter Sobczak engineers it at The Studio at Puck's Farm. Grant's voice also appears on Hey Rosetta's song "We Made a Pact" from their 2008 album Into Your Lungs (and around in your heart and on through your blood).

In 2010 and 2011, she works with Buck 65 on several tracks, including "Paper Airplane", "Cold Steel Drum", "Days Go By" and a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Who By Fire", released across his 20 Odd Years series of EPs. She also releases the four-song EP Songs for Siigoun, which includes a cover of John Denver's "Annie's Song".

Later albums and recognition

Grant's third full-length album, Honeymoon Punch, follows in 2011. The Beautiful Wild comes out in 2012, and Compostela is released in 2014. She wins Best New Artist and Best Female Artist at the Nova Scotia Music Awards in 2006.
