Jelly Roll
Jelly Roll is the stage name of Jason Bradley DeFord, a rapper and West Coast hip hop producer associated with g-funk, hip hop and west coast hip hop. He is linked with the group 9 Inch Dix and is described as a West Coast hip hop producer. He is also known by the alternate spelling JellyRoll.
Background
Jason Bradley DeFord is from Tulsa and Los Angeles, and grew up in the southside community of Antioch in Nashville, Tennessee. He is born in Antioch, Tennessee.
Collaborations and group work
Jelly Roll is known for collaborations with Lil Wyte, Struggle Jennings, Tech N9ne, Merkules and Ryan Upchurch. His 2010 collaboration with Lil Wyte, "Pop Another Pill", draws significant attention and leads to the hip-hop group SNO's album Year Round, which appears on the Hypnotize Minds label. That release is produced by DJ Paul and Juicy J. SNO's song "Come Here White Girl" is included among XXL's list of the most memorable white rapper collaborations.
He releases two collaborative albums with Haystak, two with Lil Wyte, four with Struggle Jennings, and one album with SNO alongside Lil Wyte and BPZ.
Solo releases and mixtapes
His independently released debut solo studio album, The Big Sal Story, appears in 2012. He also releases a large number of mixtapes, including the Gamblin' on a Whiteboy series and the Therapeutic Music series. His 2013 mixtape Whiskey, Weed, & Women is originally titled Whiskey, Weed, & Waffle House, but the title is changed after legal action over the restaurant name and logo used on the cover.
