Jaydee

Jaydee is the performance name of Robin Albers, a Dutch house DJ and producer from the Netherlands, born in 1958. His work sits within house, acid house, club, dance, electronic and electronica, and he is also associated with techno and trance.

Career as a DJ

Albers begins his DJ career in 1978 as a resident DJ in places including Rhenen, Veenendaal, Arnhem, Den Bosch and Enschede. In 1984, Jan Steeman of AVRO Radio offers him a DJ contract, and he starts a long career in national radio. That same year he also helps start the Dutch mixing championships, which later feature many DJs who go on to wider recognition, including DJ Jean, Michel de Hey, Erik E, DJ Gizmo, Ruud van Rijen, Orlando Voorn and Guan Elmzoon.

Radio and club work

In 1991 Jaydee hosts the radio programme For those who like to groove, a dance show that runs for one year. He receives an award for best national radio programme in 1992. After leaving national radio, he opens a club in Vianen called De Binnenplaats, which focuses on progressive house and presents sets by a range of Dutch and Belgian DJs. He is the resident DJ there, although his wider touring makes him unable to appear regularly, and the club closes in 1994.

International recognition and productions

His track Plastic Dreams becomes a major international hit in 1992, reaching number one in the USA, Italy, Belgium, France, Spain, Brazil and Japan, among other countries. This success takes him to perform in many countries inside and outside Europe, and he becomes the first Dutch DJ to perform in Moscow. He is also particularly associated with the Czech Republic, especially Prague and Radost FX.

In 1997 he produces Fiesta by the Sunclub, and he is also involved in the success of Que Si Que No, which spends 18 weeks at number one in the Dutch Dance chart. His underground productions include Karnak, Black Moon and White Rain, released on Tribal USA and later Twisted.

Collaborations and later activity

Jaydee performs with a number of international DJs, including Danny Tenaglia, David Morales, Tony Humphries, Carl Cox and George Morel. In 2000 he is one of the founders of ID&T Radio, where he hosts the return of For those who like to groove and also works as managing director.
