Jay Jay Pistolet

Jay Jay Pistolet is the recording name used by British singer-songwriter Justin James Hayward-Young. He is from the New Forest in Hampshire and is based in London.

Before recording as Jay Jay Pistolet, he is a member of the Eldora Parade, and he later performs with The Vaccines. He plays solo and also appears with a backing band that includes Marcus Mumford of Mumford and Sons.

His songs are rooted in folk and singer-songwriter styles, and he mainly plays guitar, though he also uses mandolin and piano. He supports Noah and the Whale, Slow Club and Katie Melua.

As Jay Jay Pistolet, he releases the single We Are Free on Chess Club Records and the EP Happy Birthday You on Stiff Records. He also has a number of demos circulating online.

The Guardian features him in its “New band of the day” section. He later says that he is stopping recording and performing under the Jay Jay Pistolet name for the foreseeable future while he focuses on a new musical project.
