JAXX

JAXX is the video game arrangement project used by Patrick Jacks in the video game music community. He draws inspiration from composers including Hiroki Kikuta, Yasunori Mitsuda, Yuzo Koshiro and Nobuo Uematsu, and is interested in recreating the retro game music he grew up with. He begins by using tracker programs and MIDI arrangements, then develops work in a punk and rock style, which becomes the approach he is best known for in the scene.

Work in video game music

JAXX steps away from the scene in 2002 to spend more time searching for spiritual truths, but continues to make occasional contributions over the years. His appearances are mainly on VGMix and, later, on Dwelling of Duels. The project is associated with video game music remixing and with a harder-edged, rock-based style.

Other artist with the same name

There is also a separate artist known as Jaxx or Hijaxx, a DJ and producer who is born in the UK and emigrates to Australia in 1988. He starts mixing beats in early 2002, with electro as his preferred style, though he works across breaks, house and techno as well. Before focusing on DJing, he plays bass guitar in the local band Fracture while studying, and the band performs at local festivals and wins runner-up in a regional Battle of the Bands competition in 1997. He performs at clubs and events across Sydney, appears on radio shows including Nova, Triple J, CPX and Pulse Radio, and wins the IceBox DJ Competition in July 2004.
