Javiera Mena

Javiera Mena is a singer-songwriter from Santiago, Chile, associated with electropop, synthpop, pop and indie music. Her work combines folk and pop with electronic elements.

Career

She appears in the Chilean indie scene in 2005, when two of her songs are included on compilations: “Sol de Invierno” appears on Panorama Neutral: Música Independiente Desde Chile, and “Cámara Lenta” appears on the soundtrack to the film Se arrienda. Her first full-length album, Esquemas juveniles, is released by the Argentine label Indice Virgen in 2006.

Her second album, Mena, follows in 2010 after more than four years of production and mastering. It is produced by Cristian Heyne and has a more dancefloor-oriented sound than her debut, while still including mid-tempo songs and slow ballads.

Recognition

The first single from Mena, “Hasta la verdad”, is listed as one of the Singles of the Week to pay attention to in the USA iTunes Music Store, and iTunes Mexico considers Mena a breakthrough album of the year.
