Jassi Sidhu
Jassi Sidhu is a British Punjabi singer associated with bhangra, desi, pop, electronic and pop folk styles. Born in the United Kingdom in 1977, he begins performing as a teenager in the mid-1990s and builds a career from music that combines traditional Punjabi lyrics with strong dance beats and a distinctive vocal style.
Career
Sidhu first gains recognition as a member of the band B21 before establishing a solo career. He is described as having one of the most recognisable voices to emerge from the United Kingdom in recent years, and his work plays a part in the development of UK bhangra. He is also presented as an ambassador for Punjabi music and for British-born Punjabi artists.
Solo work
His debut solo album, Reality Check, is followed by No Strings Attached, a ten-track release that brings together different styles and highlights his vocal technique and musical range. The album is described as a major project in his solo career. Across his output, he is known for dance-floor tracks that are widely used by DJs and for music aimed at lifting the mood of listeners.
Style and significance
Sidhu’s music centres on Punjabi-language lyrics, bhangra rhythms and contemporary production. He is associated with feel-good party music and is noted for a performance style that stays close to his own identity rather than following a packaged image. His career places him among the British-born Punjabi artists helping to bring UK bhangra to a wider audience.
