Jasmine is the recording name of Asumi Murakami, a Tokyo-born Japanese R&B, soul and pop singer who also uses the Japanese name ジャスミン. She is active in psy-trance through a feature on “Music Talks” by Tickets. She writes her own songs and comes from a musical family, where she sings regularly in a gospel group.
Background
Murakami is born in Tokyo, Japan, on 19 May 1989. Before her official debut, she promotes herself mainly on radio. She sends in a demo of her debut single, “sad to say”, and is later signed to Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
Career
“sad to say” tops the RIAJ download charts when it is released on a major label. The single is reported to reach number one before her formal debut, which follows a week later on 24 June 2009. That release establishes her as a Japanese singer with chart success at the point of debut.
