Japandroids

Japandroids are a Vancouver indie rock duo active from 2006 to 2024. The group consists of Brian King on guitar and vocals, and David Prowse on drums and vocals. Their sound is associated with garage rock, indie rock, noise pop, noise rock and post-hardcore.

Early releases and first period

Japandroids form in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2006 and self-release the EPs All Lies and Lullaby Death Jams in 2007 and 2008. These releases receive little attention and the band is effectively broken up by the end of 2008.

Post-Nothing and wider recognition

In January 2009, the duo sign to Unfamiliar Records for their debut album Post-Nothing, and decide to continue temporarily. The album quickly gains wide critical acclaim after its release in April. The band then signs to Polyvinyl and tours extensively through 2009 and 2010, playing more than 200 shows in 20 countries and building a reputation for highly energetic live performances.

Compilations, singles and second album

During this period, Japandroids release No Singles, a compilation of their self-released EPs, along with three 7-inch singles: Art Czars, Younger Us and Heavenward Grand Prix. After working on new material throughout 2011, they announce their second album Celebration Rock in March 2012. The album is released internationally in June and also receives broad critical praise. A single, The House That Heaven Built, precedes it in May.
