Janus Rasmussen is a producer and solo electronic artist from the Faroe Islands and Iceland. His work is shaped by a long period of collaboration with other musicians across different genres, which he draws into a personal style of experimental electronic music.

Solo work

Rasmussen’s solo debut album, Vín, focuses on minimal techno, acoustic textures and electronic sound design. It is structured with a rise-and-fall flow that gives it the feel of a DJ set rather than a straightforward studio album. In later solo work, he combines the rhythmic and darker elements of Vín with his own vocals, creating a melodic sound within electronic dance music.

Collaborations

He performs with Ólafur Arnalds as one half of Kiasmos. He is also a member of Bloodgroup and Byrta. His solo output is presented as a distillation of his wider collaborative work.

Style

His music sits within deep house and electronic styles, with the bio also describing elements of minimal, downtempo and electronica. It emphasises experimental production, electronic sound design and the use of acoustic textures alongside programmed rhythms.
