Jane Horrocks is an English actress and singer from Lancashire, United Kingdom. She is trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and joins the Royal Shakespeare Company early in her career.

She becomes closely associated with voice work and singing impersonations, including impressions of Judy Garland, Dame Shirley Bassey and Ethel Merman. Jim Cartwright is impressed by this range and writes both the stage play and film Little Voice to showcase her talent. In the 1998 film adaptation, Horrocks plays Laura, a shy young woman known as Little Voice or LV, who has an exceptional ability to recreate the voices of famous singers. The role becomes one of her best-known performances.

Horrocks appears in a wide range of television productions, including Absolutely Fabulous as Bubble, Bad Girl, Boon, Heartland, Henry IV, Hunting Venus, La Nonna, Leaving Home, Never Mind the Horrocks, Nightlife, Red Dwarf, Road, Roots, Some Kind of Life, Suffer the Little Children, The Garden and Welcome to the Times. She is also the subject of an episode of the genealogy documentary series Who Do You Think You Are? in 2006.

Personal life

She lives with UK writer Nick Vivian, and they have two children: a son, Dylan, and a daughter, Molly.
