Jamie Woon
Jamie Woon is a British singer, songwriter and producer from New Malden, United Kingdom. His work is associated with contemporary R&B, dubstep, future garage, post-dubstep, R&B and soul, and he is signed to PMR and Polydor.
Career
Woon first gains wider attention with the independent EP Wayfaring Stranger in 2007. He then draws broad acclaim in 2010 for the single Night Air. He releases his debut studio album, Mirrorwriting, in 2011 through Polydor Records, followed by Making Time in 2015. The latter includes the single Sharpness featuring Quadron.
Background and recognition
Woon is the son of Celtic folk singer and backing artist Mae McKenna. He is raised in New Malden in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Greater London. He attends Sacred Heart RC Primary School in New Malden, St Catherine’s RC Middle School in Raynes Park, and Wimbledon College in Wimbledon before studying at the BRIT School. He graduates from the BRIT School the year before Amy Winehouse, whom he later supports live.
In January 2011, the BBC places him fourth in its Sound of 2011 poll.
