Jamie Mallender

Jamie Mallender is a multi-instrumental session player, singer-songwriter and composer from Sheffield in the UK. His main instrument is bass guitar. He is best known as the bass player for Tony Martin, the former Black Sabbath vocalist, and has played with him since 2005.

Session work and collaborations

Mallender performs as a rock bassist, but his work covers a wide range of styles. He has played with artists in many different genres and has also worked on instrumental music for film, television and video games. He has performed with Polish pop artist Zenon as a session player in Poland on many occasions, and has worked with Zal Cleminson of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Steve Roberts of UK Subs, Graham Oliver of Saxon and John Verity of Argent. He also sometimes plays guitar, including work with 1960s singer Dave Berry.

Recorded music

In 2007, Mallender begins recording his own album after years of working in other people’s bands. He first writes the track “Return To Bass,” which leads him into making an instrumental record. A record company later contacts him after hearing demos on MySpace, and the album is completed after a cancelled Tony Martin Band tour leaves him time to finish it in his studio. He then releases “Slip Away” as a download-only single, a preview of the EP Tunes From The Mothership, which includes vocal tracks and instrumentals. He also sings while working with Eaglesque, which feeds back into his songwriting.

Live work and touring

With Tony Martin, Mallender performs in Russia, including a show at The Kremlin where he receives an ambassador for peace medal, as well as in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Sweden, Norway, Italy and Hungary. He also appears on bills with acts including Whitesnake, Foreigner, Tony Iommi, Bonnie Tyler, Glenn Hughes, Rik Wakeman, Uriah Heep, Nazareth, Jeff Scott Soto, Eric Martin, Ten, Hardline, Bob Catley, Y&T, Ripper Owens, The Animals, U.D.O., Vixen, Doro, Raven, In Flames, Helloween and Pretty Maids.

His regular band is EPIC, a UK touring three-piece harmony group that plays classic songs associated with The Eagles, Joe Cocker, Small Faces, the Doobie Brothers, the Traveling Wilburys, the Turtles, the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Killers, the Kinks and Kings of Leon. Mallender endorses Fret-King Basses, Hartke amplification, Rotosound Strings, Music Man Bass Guitars, Snap-Jack Cables and Danelectro Cool Cat Pedals.
