James Thomson

James Thomson is a Newcastle-based Australian roots musician and singer-songwriter. He writes a blend of blues, folk and country music, and his work is rooted in the sounds he hears from a young age.

Early life and musical development

Thomson grows up on a property in rural New South Wales and is introduced to blues and country music early in life. He does not learn an instrument until his family moves to Newcastle, where he finds his mother’s old guitar and begins teaching himself to play. He starts writing songs about three years later, at the age of 19.

Recordings and performing career

After nearly four years of performing live both with bands and as a solo artist, Thomson records an album of original material over the course of a week in late 2011. He later releases a second album, Cold Moon, in 2015.
