James Grant

James Grant

James Grant is a Scottish singer and songwriter, and a member of Love and Money. His career begins in the early 1980s, when he forms Friends Again with Chris Thompson of The Bathers. Although the group is short-lived, it helps shape the emerging sound associated with later Scottish bands.

Love and Money

Grant becomes more widely known through Love and Money. The group releases four albums, scores several hit singles, and builds an international following. It also earns silver discs in the UK, establishing Grant’s reputation as a songwriter.

Solo work and collaborations

In 1996, Grant writes four songs for Karen Matheson’s solo album, including the title track The Dreaming Sea. That work leads to a collaboration with musician and producer Donald Shaw, resulting in Grant’s debut solo album Sawdust In My Veins. He follows it with My Thrawn Glory, then three further albums, including Strange Flowers in 2009.

He continues to write, record and perform live, including work with Karen Matheson and Monica Queen. He is also associated with Butler, Blake & Grant and The Chain Gang.
